Friday Activity Report – April & May
The Craft Empire
In the month of April and May, the Friday activity of paper craft was held in two sessions.
Students were very excited for this activity. The teacher gave instructions to the children and showed them the step by step procedure.
They made beautiful Cattail (paper) flowers and made snowflakes out of origami sheets. This activity gave an opportunity to children to express their creativity.
Students from class 3 to 5 assembled in the Biology Lab. Science teacher explained the activity that was to be conducted – ‘Walking Water’. The water from one cup makes its way up hill and back down into a second empty cup with the help of paper towels. The students noticed the water moving towards other glasses as the paper towels start getting wet with coloured water.
In the second class “Invisible ink “experiment was introduced. Children were shown how lemon juice work as an invisible ink and when it comes in contact with heat, everything written or drawn on paper is visible.
They all enjoyed it as it was great fun.
Students from Classes 3 to 5 assembled in the Tabla room. Students were very excited for learning tabla. Teacher gave the basic information about the rhythm and hand movements to the students. Basic steps to play the Taal were taught to them.They practiced these taals with the count of claps and later practiced it on tabla with abundant enthusiasm. The students learnt Bhajan Pattern on tabla and practised it
Students are eager to learn new taals in the next session. It turned into a fruitful activity.
The class started with a lot of energy and the students were given introduction of taekwondo which is a pattern of defence and attack motions. The students learnt how to wish which is a form of respect . The students did various warm up exercises like jogging, neck turn, stretching . The students learnt walking stance, drop kick and circular kick. Students also did more extensive exercises which help to strengthen the muscles of the legs and improves body balance like Duck walk ,frog jump,Butterfly, Baby walk, Bridge, Drop kick, and Circular Kick. The students really enjoyed all the exercises. The class ended with meditation which improves concentration and breathing, it also relaxes the body.
Dhwani (Vocal Music)
The class started with an introduction to what is complete music and its 3 parts i.e. vocal,dance and instrumental . The students learnt seven types of notes in music and sang well. They made their best efforts to sing with rhythm which showed their keen interest in this choosen activity . This was followed by brief introduction to the ‘alankars’ by the music teacher.Students sang alankars after their teacher.They learnt the prayers and a song and sang them well. The notes were perfect and there was an air filled with melody all around.They were filled with much fun and enthusiasm and their smiles brightened the aura of the music room.They are looking forward to next class with much excitement.
The Ace Chess Club
The Chess Activity began with an ice breaking interaction . The basic rules and positioning of the pieces were explained to the students with the help of the magnetic chess board.
Students were also taught how to read the moves . It was an interesting beginning to an equally interesting game ‘Chess’.Students were also taught how to read differentiate between legal and illegal moves .They were explained about rules of giving checkmate too.It was an engaging session and at the same time proved to be very interesting as well.
In the first session, two healthy salads – ‘Quick Toss Salad’ and ‘Russian Salad’ were prepared .In the second session, the recipe of the day was Stuffed Vegetables. The students were divided into small groups and were asked to wash peel and chop fruits and vegetables. The teachers then taught them how to prepare seasonings for both the recipes.Each one of them eagerly waited for their turn to toss salads or mix cottage cheese and peas with spices.The outcome of both the classes was quite fruitful as our students learnt to cook and eat healthy food without giving their mothers much trouble.
Green Friends Club
On the first day of the activity, students were being told about the organic fertilizers.Students were taken to the ground for a nature walk. They were also explained about composting, types of composting and reasons for composting in the form of PPT.Children learned how to make organic fertilizers by composting kitchen and garden waste in a pot.On the second day,students were taken for planting seeds.
The soil was dug and seeds of coriander,spinach were sown at different places.
Further, compost made last time was added to it and water was poured.In the next class, we will see plants grown by the children.
The class started with the attendance of the students. Then, different techniques of mathematics were being discussed. A student came out and spoke about abacus on fingers and how to add and subtract using fingers of both the hands. They all were excited to share their views.
The teacher explained the method of subtraction by 10, powers of 10 and multiplication of a number by 11 through Vedic method. Students did the sums, enthusiastically. This is how the class ended.
Kalamkari (Block Printing)
On the very first day of the activity the students were very excited work with the blocks Students made Mother’s Day card from blocks under the guidance of their teachers. They wrote few beautiful lines for their mothers under the heading “Happy Mother’s Day and decorated it with glitters. Students were excited to do the activity. They made different borders and flowers. They just loved this activity.
In the next session,students made beautiful sceneries with the animal blocks and drew a picture of tree depicting a beautiful scene of nature. Their imagination worked wonders on the sheets.
The first Friday activity class of ‘Personality Development’ began with introduction to the concept and details of personality development by the teacher.Introduction of different kind of personalities was given to them with detailed examples. It was a very interactive session. Students at the end of the class turned out to be more confident. In the second session, students were introduced to the concept and values of healthy living, clean body through zumba dance fitness where in students were taught how to do zumba dance and importance of staying fit. Students enjoyed it a lot. Many shy and non-participating students self took an initiative to perform which fulfilled the aim of the session.
The students wrote ‘the introduction to calligraphy’ in their activity notebook.
The introduction included the history, telling the kids about when the calligraphy started and what it is all about. The students also came to know that, “calligraphy is more than just writing beautifully. It is the art of forming beautiful symbols by hand and arranging them well. It is a set of skills and techniques for positioning and inscribing words so they show integrity, harmony, some sort of ancestry, rhythm and creative fire. ”
Overall it was a very informative activity for all the students.
Heel to Heel (Western dance)
The Friday activity started with the cool down exercises which enabled the students to release the negative energy out from their bodies.
A new Dance Form – JAZZ was introduced to the students, the basic theory was provided to them which included:
Position of the feet
Using the above elements, the students learned a Jazz routine which was very well performed by all of them. The students learned improvisation techniques too.
The class turned out to be enthusiastic and energetic.
The Drama Geeks
The art of public speaking, communicating effectively, thinking on the spot and expressing with drama and enactment have been identified as important skills required for success in today’s cut throat world of competition. Each group was given a situation and they were asked to consider themselves as ‘News Reporters’. The teacher discussed the ways that news reporters opt even when telling the absolute, unvarnished truth as it shapes the opinions and perceptions of the audiences. Each group presented in an excellent way. It was a fun filled yet informative session. Every child enjoyed a lot.
Everyone is a litterer. A “Jewellery litterrer” that is. We all love to stack jewellery, but they’re scattered all over the house. So , it might be a good idea to keep some jewellery dishes throughout the house to ensure it stays that way . And what’s easy and cheap way to make one ? Out of Clay of course !! J
In the first class, students were introduced to the clay tools.The teacher taught them the preparation of clay along with the usage of tools. The task was to make a “Jewellery Bowl. As the children were excited, they made perfect shaped bowls with beautiful decorations using their imagination!! After making the beautiful bowls, it was time to beautify it more! Students painted their bowls with bright colors and decorated them with colorful kundans and 3D liners.
