CONSONANCE ’17 – Model United Nations
K.R. MANGALAM WORLD SCHOOL hosted Consonance’ an interschool MUN with a theme ‘World in peace or in pieces’ on 21st and 22nd July. The students were divided into various committees such as Financial Stability Board(FSB), United Nations General Assembly(UNGA), Crisis Working Committee(CWC), United Nations Security Council(UNSC), to name just a few. Many reputed schools of Delhi –NCR participated in the event which was commenced by Mr. Deepak Saharan DCP, East Gurgaon.
The conference officially started with the opening ceremony followed by a debate session of various committees and their team members. As students began trickling in, they huddled nervously in small groups, anxiously twirling their pens, and twiddling their thumbs. The students quickly gained confidence while learning the basics of Parliamentary Procedure, Resolution and Position Paper Writing, and Public Speaking.There was a noticeable change in the student’s demeanor as they opened debate. Different agendas were taken by various committees. UNGA reviewed the notion of armed intervention with special emphasis on the responsibility to protect. NATO committee held a debate on threats posed to NATO by Russian bipolar military activities etc.
Shedding their laid back attitudes and instead donning a professional and serious manner, they transformed into delegates. Every new crisis was a different topic for discussion. The imagination of representatives was the key to progression of debate, which they used extensively. While the debate was visionary and amusing, it added to the experience of the delegates. Best delegates from every committee were endowed trophies and certificates in the closing ceremony. The school Principal Ms. Priya Arora congratulated the winners. The eminent guest of the second day Mr.Dhirender Bhatnagar, President UNESCO clubs. Centers and associations, Paris appreciated the efforts of school for providing such platform to the students.
