FRIDAY ACTIVITY REPORT- Class I-IX, MAY- 2011
Class- I
MASK MAKING
Children were given the printed and cutout form of eagle (for boys) and butterfly (for girls). They enjoyed colouring the masks and then decorating them with glitters and ribbons. It was an enthralling activity. The children went home wearing their colourful, decorated masks.
BACKYARD SCIENCE
Topic: Properties of AIR
Children were explained the properties of air with the help of experiments. Students were given balloons and were asked to inflate it. This was done to show that air is used to fill objects. One more experiment was conducted to show that air is needed for burning. Finally, they were given coloured papers to make aeroplanes. Children enjoyed the whole activity and participated actively.
AEROBICS
The session started with a few warm up exercises. After the warm up session, students were taught footsteps as well as few body movemens used in aerobics. Nice effort was put in by all the students. Synchronization was quite visible in their steps. It was totally a funfilled experience for all.
ANIMATION & MULTIMEDIA
The brain storming session was held with the students and different ideas of depicting motion tweening were discussed. The class was divided into 4 groups. The students started working on the following projects which will cover motion tweening:
1. Man fishing in a pond
2. Moon revolving around the Sun
3. Snowfall
4. Santa clauz landing on the roof of the hut
By the end of the activity on 13th May, children could demonstrate various motion tweening by showing the moon revolving round the sun, car moving, stars twinkle, a man sliding on the snow, etc. It was a good learning experience for them as they could animate various objects.
BLOCK PRINTING & TEXTURE
Block printing, the famous art of Gujarat was conducted in our school. Children were explained to make different patterns with blocks on a sheet of paper. They were then asked to repeat the same on handkerchiefs which looked extremely beautiful with vivid colurs and hues.
We also conducted “Texture Printing “ activity for children. The children commenced the activity by dabbing with fevicol first. Once it dried, the texture came. Lastly, children enjoyed making a peacock, and then dabbing it with thumb.
To move a step ahead, childen were taught “Table cloth” printing. Beautiful imaginations came alive on the cloth when they drew their favourite designs. An amalgamation of block printing and fabric painting really adorned the table cloth. It turned out to be a perfect start for summer vacation ahead.
BOOK CLUB & CREATIVE WRITING
In this session, the students were given a topic: “The Happiest Day”. At first, there was discussion and then the students started writing on the topic. They were told to think freely. All of them wrote it very well. They were given guidance to improve the written expression. The topic for the next session was to write about the “Things that you don’t like or feel bad about”. Majority of them showed their hatred for the people who bully others; one came up with the concern about the habit of people spitting on roads or making the public places dirty. One of them wrote about the pollution in the environment and her hatred towards each and every human being who does not call for their environment. This is how the children shared their thoughts.
CALLIGRAPHY
Proceeding with more styles of writing the letters, students were made to practice the following letters: ‘A’, ‘B’,’e’,’D’,’E’,’F’,’G’,’H’ and ‘I’ It was fun to see the young learners working on it.

Sandwich Making

Proceeding with more styles of writing the letters, students were made to practice the following letters: ‘A’, ‘B’,’e’,’D’,’E’,’F’,’G’,’H’ and ‘I’ It was fun to see the young learners working on it.
Fruit Ice-cream delight
This activity was a nice idea to beat the heat. Children enjoyed while learning this yummy reciope. The nice combination of nutritious fruits and vanilla ice-cream was relished by all the children.
Coconut Laddoo Making
Students were excited to learn this yummy recipe. They made delicious laddoos using marie biscuits, dessicated coconut and milkmaid. They made ladoos for themselves and relished it.
Group II- Classes V- IX
Pasta Salad

Time for tasty treat after a long day! The students of classes V-XI chopped finely bell peppers (yellow and red), capsicum, onions and garlic.. All these were tossed together in a bowl with boiled pasta and enjoyed heartily by the students.
DRAMATICS

The children were divided into 5 groups and were given different situation to present an act on. The entire group came up with innovative and creative ideas for their piece and gave their performance with lots of zeal. The class ended with an enactment by the teachers of the same situations and suggestions for improvement.
DEBATE

The discussion on the debate was about “Discrimination and inequality in India”. The two teams came out with a lot of information on the different basis on which inequality exists in India and how discrimination is still a part in our social system. It finally ended with suggestions from children on how this can be changed and how the diversity can actually help us grow as a nation if inequality and discrimination are abolished.
In the next session, children were given the topic “Technology makes us Couch Potatoes”. There were two teams, one speaking for the topic and other against it. One student was the anchor. The debate was very interesting with a variety of points from children from both teams. There was a discussion at the end. Finally, it was concluded that it is difficult to think of a life without technology and it is a personal choice to use it for necessity and not become lazy as couch potatoes.
ELECTRICALS & ELECTRONICS

Students learnt about the basic behind the entire electrical and communicative device. Students were also told about the things that how time and technology can be different for the development. They were also told how innovation takes place with the help of trial and error method.
ELOCUTION

The topic chosen for the activity was “Television V/s Books”. Children showed loads of enthusiasm towards the topic. They all spoke about the positive and negative aspects of both very confidently. Finally the activity came to an end with a project given for next week. The topic given is”
“How I felt when I lost my first tooth?”
In the next session, all the children were fully prepared and they shared their experiences. We both educators also shared out experiences of loosing first tooth. We also played an educational game where we asked them to write their name and against each alphabet of their name they were supposed to write a suitable adjective. The game was a hit and they all had fun playing the game.
On the last day before the summer break, all children were excited about the vacations. So the topic given was “Should we follow time-table during summer vacations?” Children loved expressing their views with educators and peers alike. Overall activity was productive.
PAINTING
Class II – IV

Children were given the topic “Beat the heat”. They come up with lots of creative ideas. They drew beach scene, park scene and an ice-cream seller. It was fun to see the talent of students. They made their drawing colourful and bright.
In the next session, students were asked to draw a “Sea World They drew different types of fishes and animals like sea horse, octopus, etc. The colorful fishes swam through their little creations.
In the last session before summer break, students were given the topic “Garden Scene” They came up with lots of created ideas. They drew swings, flowers, children playing with balls, butterflies, etc.
Class V-IX
Children spent the month of May learning Glass Painting. They did excellent work and had great enthusiasm to learn new technique.
PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT
Class – II – IV

Students were divided into two groups. The topic given for the debate was “Pocket Money”. Seven students spoke against the topic and seven in favour. Aim of the activity was:
1. Public speaking
2. Confidence building
3. Team efforts
4. Presenting views Students enjoyed the activity and also understood how they need to save money and spend it wisely. They were enthusiastic and had put in a lot of efforts as a team.
POTTER’S WHEEL
Diya Making:

It was another exciting day with Potter’s Wheel. The students tried their hands at making diyas. We could see all shapes and sizes of diyas being made by the children, till they reached perfection.
In the next class, students tried to make flower vases. They observed the potter moving his finger over the clay. The students later tried the same till they succeeded at making vases of their own. They enjoyed every moment of the activity.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Students learned about the types of camera such as Digital, SLR, Panoromic Camera, etc. A detailed discussion on light, shadow and exposure was done. They were also told about colour schemes such as Achromatic and Monochromatic. They understood the key terms of photography such as Colour saturation and Colour wheel. The practical of positive and negative regarding photography was done.
Students were given an introduction about reflectors and why we use it. The learned about the two ways reflection works on object. They did practical to make their own reflector with easy techniques.
QUIZ
Teachers of class I organized a quiz for children. The topics were “My country” and “The Solar System”. Some information was given to the students. Equal participation was from the students. They fully participated and enjoyed the session.
In the next session, a short quiz of 15 point was conducted by class I teachers based on Indian states and capitals. The children answered enthusiastically. Some interesting facts about our galaxy and sun were told with the help of books and pictures. Students took note of all the interesting facts.
TABLE TENNIS
All the 25 students under this activity were divided into 3 groups according to their ability. Three rooms have been allotted for this activity.
Group A: They practiced with the table and learnt service skills. They also learnt how to spin the ball.
Group B and C: They learned how to hold the racket and hit the ball. All of them enjoyed and learnt a lot. In the subsequent sessions, the students were taught about the basic skill of Table Tennis like service skill, racket holding, defensive skill and practice against the wall. Group A practiced with the table and Group B practiced against the wall. In the last session before the vacations, both the groups practised with the table tennis table. They improved their basic skill. They were told about the basic rules of table tennis, specially point system and service system.
INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC
Synthesizer

Students were given opportunity to practice the Sargam; seven swars on their own. They were given Harmonium whereby the students practiced playing the notes. The students who joined recently were made comfortable with their finger movements on harmonium and the seven swars were introduced to them.
All students were explained the fourth Alankar. Simultaneously, students were made to practice the notes of fourth Alankar individually on the harmonium.
Tabla
Children enjoyed playing on the drums and did basic hand practice of the “Taal” to start with. Then each child played the drums with the timer to build stamina.
Next session, students started practicing on the table individually. Few students played table for morning assembly prayer. The taal on which students practiced was “Keherva”.
In the last session before the vacations, students were excited to play table with slow and fast movements to enhance their hand movements.
